A shocking incident occurred in Bareilly’s posh Khwaja Kutub area on Tuesday afternoon when a dispute over garbage disposal escalated into a shootout. According to police reports, Sanjeev alias Bobby Rastogi opened fire with a country-made pistol on Rajat Rastogi, a local jeweler. However, the bullet hit Rajiv Rastogi, a passerby and resident of the same area, injuring him seriously.
Panic in the Area After Daylight Firing
The Khwaja Kutub locality, known for its peaceful and upscale surroundings, was shaken by the sound of gunfire in broad daylight. Panic spread among residents, and people rushed indoors for safety. Soon after receiving the information, the Kotwali police, field unit, and forensic team reached the scene. CO City Ashutosh Shivam also inspected the spot and directed a thorough investigation into the matter.
Garbage Disposal Dispute Turned Violent
Preliminary police investigation revealed that Rajat Rastogi and Sanjeev (Bobby) Rastogi live opposite each other. Rajat had reportedly been objecting to Bobby dumping household garbage in front of his house for quite some time. On Tuesday, when Rajat confronted Bobby again, an argument broke out between them. Enraged, Bobby went inside his house, brought out a pistol, and fired at Rajat.
Innocent Resident Injured While Intervening
Hearing the commotion, Rajiv Rastogi, who lives nearby, came out and tried to intervene. During the scuffle, Bobby fired, and the bullet hit Rajiv’s left hand, passing through it. He collapsed on the spot, bleeding profusely. Locals rushed him to the district hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors have confirmed that his condition is stable and out of danger.
CCTV Footage Captures the Shooting
Police have seized CCTV footage from cameras installed in the vicinity. In the video, accused Bobby Rastogi can be seen holding a firearm during the altercation. The footage has been taken into police custody for detailed examination.
Police Statement: Accused to Be Arrested Soon
CO City Ashutosh Shivam confirmed that the firing took place due to a dispute over garbage disposal. He stated, “An FIR has been registered against the accused Sanjeev alias Bobby Rastogi. The police are conducting raids, and he will be arrested soon.”
