Angry Villagers Block Highway, Attempt to Set Tractor on Fire

Shahjahanpur. A tragic accident occurred late Wednesday night on the Puwayan-Nigohi highway. An out-of-control tractor-trolley crashed into a tin shed in Sunara Buzurg village, crushing and killing a farmer couple sleeping inside. Their 13-year-old granddaughter, Vandana, was seriously injured. Following the accident, chaos erupted in the village. People blocked the highway and attempted to set the tractor on fire.

The deceased have been identified as Ramshankar (48) and his wife Tara Devi (46), residents of the village. According to family members, the couple was sleeping with their granddaughter in a tin shed outside their house along the highway. Around 11 pm, a speeding tractor-trolley coming from Puwayan suddenly went out of control and ran over them.

Hearing a loud crash, family members and neighbors rushed to the scene and found all three covered in blood. Family members immediately took them to the Community Health Center (CHC), where doctors declared the couple dead. Vandana’s condition was reported to be critical, and she was referred to a medical college.

After the accident, the tractor driver tried to reverse and flee. In the process, he also hit a parked Bolero vehicle. Hearing the commotion, people tried to surround him, but he abandoned the tractor-trolley and escaped. It is reported that the trolley was empty, and the driver was returning towards the brick kiln after unloading bricks.

As soon as the news of the couple’s death spread, the villagers became enraged. They blocked the highway and even attempted to set the tractor on fire by dousing it with diesel. Upon receiving information, police forces from Sindhauli, Nigohi, Puwayan, Banda, and Khutar police stations arrived at the scene.

The police somehow managed to move the crowd away from the tractor. The situation remained tense until 1 am. The villagers were demanding that the brick kiln owner and the driver be brought to the spot. Police officers calmed the people down and restored order. A police force is currently deployed in the village. The incident has shaken the entire area. Villagers have demanded strict action, blaming negligence for the accident.
