Examinations to begin on February 17, 2026
New Delhi, October 30, 2025:
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has officially released the date sheet for the Class X and XII board examinations 2026. Examinations for both classes will commence on February 17, 2026, as previously announced at the time of the 2025 results declaration.
A major change this year is that CBSE will conduct two board examinations for Class X, in accordance with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
In a statement issued to school principals and heads, CBSE stated that it had earlier shared a tentative date sheet on September 24, 2025, approximately 146 days before the commencement of the examinations, to enable schools, students, and other stakeholders to prepare in advance.
Following the submission of the List of Candidates (LOC) by all affiliated schools, CBSE now has the final data on the subject combinations chosen by the students. Accordingly, the board has finalized and released the detailed date sheet 110 days before the start of the examinations.
While preparing the date sheet, CBSE stated that several important factors were taken into consideration:
Sufficient gaps have been provided between the two main subjects commonly chosen by students of both classes.
The schedule of national-level entrance examinations has also been considered, ensuring that Class XII examinations conclude well before these entrance tests to help students with better preparation and time management.
This plan also ensures that teachers involved in evaluation duties do not have to be away from their schools for extended periods or at the same time. The board has taken utmost care to avoid clashes between the more than 40,000 subject combinations, ensuring that no student has two exams on the same date.
All papers will begin at 10:30 AM (IST).
The CBSE emphasized that the early release of the final date sheet will help schools, teachers, and students plan and prepare effectively for the upcoming examinations. The subject-wise detailed schedule for both Class X and Class XII will be available on the official website — www.cbse.gov.in.
