Bareilly — A retired Army soldier from Bareilly’s Baradari area has accused his daughter-in-law of having an illicit relationship with a revenue official (lekhpal) and threatening to implicate the family in a false dowry case. Based on his complaint, an FIR has been registered at the Baradari police station and an investigation is underway.

According to the police, the complainant lives with his family in a colony on Pilibhit Bypass Road. He told Station House Officer (SHO) Dhananjay Pandey that his son married a woman from the Bilaspur area of Pilibhit district last year. After the wedding, the family allegedly learned that the woman was in a relationship with a lekhpal posted in Pilibhit.

Screenshots Spark Family Dispute

The retired soldier claimed that the lekhpal’s wife sent him screenshots of long social-media chats between the lekhpal and his daughter-in-law. When the family confronted her, she allegedly created a ruckus at home. She reportedly gathered all jewellery and dowry items and later lodged what the complainant calls a “false dowry harassment case” at the Bilaspur police station.

Accused of Demanding Property Transfer

He further alleged that when his son went to bring her back, she demanded that the family transfer their house, land, and even their firearm licence in her name. She also allegedly threatened to send the entire family to jail in the dowry case.

On November 10, the woman reportedly returned to Bareilly, collected her belongings, and left the house again.

Threats From In-Laws Alleged

The retired soldier also claimed that the woman’s father and brother later called him and threatened to shoot him. Following this, the family approached senior police officials for help.

Acting on the complaint and instructions from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baradari police registered a case.

SHO Dhananjay Pandey said that all allegations are being thoroughly investigated, and the truth will come out during questioning.
